چکیده

Color texture algorithms have been under investigation for quite a few years now. However, the results of these algorithms are still under considerable influence of the illumination conditions under which the images were captured. It is strongly desireable to reduce the influence of illumination as much as possible to obtain stable and satisfying classification results even under difficult imaging conditions, as they can occur e.g. in medical applications like endoscopy. In this paper we present the analysis of a well-known texture analysis algorithm, namely the sumand difference-histogram features, with respect to illumination changes. Based on this analysis, we propose a novel set of features factoring out the illumination influence from the majority of the original features. We conclude our paper with a quantitative, experimental evaluation on artificial and real image samples.

Color Texture Classification under Varying Illumination

Color texture descriptors have gained a lot of interest in computer vision applications. Methods for grayscale texture analysis have been extended to color images. This paper presents a new descriptor for color texture analysis based on the Local Mapped Pattern (LMP) methodology called Color Local Mapped Pattern (CLMP). For each color channel, C-LMP considers the sum of the differences of each ...

Color Histograms Adapted to Query-Target Images for Object Recognition across Illumination Changes

Most object recognition schemes fail in case of illumination changes between the color image acquisitions. One of the most widely used solutions to cope with this problem is to compare the images bymeans of the intersection between invariant color histograms. The main originality of our approach is to cope with the problem of illumination changes by analyzing each pair of query and target image...

Color-Orientation Indexing

Observing the development of content based image retrieval systems hindered by the lack of eecient image representations, color histogram based indexing techniques have been used quite successfully. Though their performance strongly depends on illumination conditions being controlled, there has been only small eeort to make them invariant to illumination. By introducing color{orientation histog...

Robust Histogram Construction from Color Invariants

A simple and effective object recognition scheme is to represent and match images on the basis of color histograms. To obtain robustness against varying imaging circumstances (e.g. a change in illumination, object pose, and viewpoint), color histograms are constructed from color invariants. However, in general, color invariants are negatively affected by sensor noise due to the instabilities of...

Fusion of Texture Variation and On-Line Color Sampling for Moving Object Detection Under Varying Chromatic Illumination

In this paper, a novel approach to non-rigid moving object detection under varying chromatic illumination is proposed. Different from most algorithms that utilize color information, the assumption of smooth or global change of illumination is no longer needed. Our method is based on the observation that the color appearance of objects may alter as the change of light intensity and color, but th...
